Cho Wins Four Event Titles, All-Around Crown in Illinois' Road Loss to Nebraska

RECAP

LINCOLN, Neb. – Illinois secured titles on all four events, though the Illini fell to Nebraska on the road, 195.750-194.000, on Sunday afternoon in Lincoln, Neb.

Chloe Cho continued her outstanding sophomore campaign by winning titles on all four events along with the all-around crown. Summer Clancy tied for first on balance beam after equaling her career-best score of 9.850.

"Chloe continued to shine for Illinois tonight," said head coach Josh Nilson. "She won every single event – tying for first on floor – and the all-around, marking six competitions in a row winning the all-around title. Vault was much improved tonight, and we saw many improvements in individual performances throughout the meet on all events. We have a tough schedule ahead of us with the Mizzou and UCLA competitions all happening in the next weekend, but both are great opportunities to build on the good and eliminate the mistakes.

"We hope to see you in State Farm Center next Sunday as we take on UCLA!"

The Illini started the afternoon on uneven bars, teaming up for 48.075. Cho led the way with a 9.950, which tied her career-best tally, while Destiny Denning registered the team's second-best mark of 9.775.

On vault, Cho registered the team's highest-ranked routine of 9.875, a new season-best score, while Clancy was not far behind at 9.825, which was good for third place. As a team, Illinois recorded a 48.850.

After the sides reached the halfway point, the Orange and Blue transitioned to floor, which saw Cho led the way once again with a 9.875. The Illini accounted for four of the top six scores on the event – including identical 9.775s from Kennedy Brown and Tali Joelson – while finishing at 48.825 as a group.

In the final rotation on beam, Cho and Clancy shared the event title with scores of 9.850, with Clancy tying her career-best mark on the apparatus. Olivia Coppola's 9.825, good for third place, helped the Illini to a 48.250.

Cho's all-around performance of 39.550 tied her career-high and set a new season-best score as she won by over two-tenths of a point.
