CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams completed the Fighting Illini Challenge and Combined Events on Saturday (Jan. 24) from the UI Armory. Romi Tamir set a new UI Armory record today in her triple jump win at 13.50m (44-3 1/2) which is also the second-best mark in program history and current NCAA number two mark for 2026.
Tamir broke Yvonne Mensah's 19-year-old UI Armory record of 13.30m (43-7 3/4) set back in 2007. Her teammates Mercy Honesty and Katharina Graman also posted top-10 program marks. Honesty leaped 13.38m (43-10) which is fourth in the program all time and Graman's 13.08m (42-11) is eighth all time in school history.
Cody Johnston improved his program's second-best vault to 5.62m (18-5 1/4) in his second-place finish today while Cade DeWitt cleared the school's ninth-best vault at 5.30m (17-4 1/2). On the women's side, Mia Morello also improved her program's second-best mark to 4.50m (14-9) which is also the current NCAA lead for 2026. Oluwatomilayo Akintunde threw the program's third-best shot put today in her second-place finish, 16.40m (53-9 3/4).
Faith Deering continues to set new personal bests each week in the weight throw as she nears the 20 meter barrier. Today she threw the sixth-best mark in school history at 19.96m (65-6). Javaris Ambrose won the weight throw today on the school's seventh-best toss, 19.99m (65-7), and Reece Ihenacho place second on the program's ninth-best toss, 19.11m (62-8 1/2).
On the track Naomi Bey-Osborne sprinted herself into the top-10 list as she recorded the school's fifth-fastest 300m (38.90). Grace Kombetto clocked the program's eighth-fastest 1000m (2:51.11). The attendance for the three-day meet in the Armory was 605.

Illinois track and field is in action next week for a NCAA Championships preview at the host site of Fayetteville, Ark. for the Razorback Invitational on Friday-Saturday (Jan. 30-31).
