CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Heptathletes Luuk Pelkmans, Jip de Greef and assistant coach Heath Baldwin finished the first four events of their heptathlons today (Jan. 22) at the UI Armory.
Baldwin currently resides in first place with 3,558 points as he's won three events the long jump, shot put and high jump. Most notable of these being the high jump to end the day where he set a new personal best as he cleared 2.13m (6-11 3/4) on his third and final attempt.
Pelkmans made his heptathlon debut in the Orange and Blue where he sits in second place with 3,408 points as he was the runner up in three events the shot put, high jump and long jump. Much like Baldwin he cleared a new personal best in the high jump at 2.07m (6-9 1/2).
De Greef is in third place with 3,354 points where he started his day with a silver medal in the 60m and followed that up with third-place finishes in the long jump and shot put. Much like Pelkmans and Baldwin before him he was flying to new heights in the high jump as he recorded a new personal best as well at 2.01 (6-7).

The Illini combined events athletes return to action tomorrow (Jan. 23) for the final three events of the heptathlon starting at 11:30 a.m. and all five events of the pentathlon beginning at 12 p.m. CT.
