CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois men's and women's track and field teams completed the first meet of the season, the Illini Open, on Saturday afternoon in the UI Armory. All-American long jumper Sophia Beckmon is currently the world leader with her long jump today of 6.81m (22-4 1/4). This mark is also the NCAA and Big Ten lead, UI Armory record and the program's second-furthest jump. She also sprinted the school's seventh-fastest 60m (7.34) today as well.
Jordan Koskondy also threw the program's second-best mark in the weight throw at 22.91m (75-2) which is the third best mark in the NCAA currently for the 2026 season. Her teammate, Oluwatomilayo Akintunde, had an impressive debut in the Orange and Blue as she threw the program's fourth-best weight throw, 21.70m (71-2 1/2), and fifth-best shot put, 15.19m (49-10).
Romi Tamir leaped a notable mark in the long jump as well not only was her 6.33m (20-9 1/4) the sixth-best mark in program history it's also the Israeli indoor long jump record.
Faith Deering threw the school's seventh-furthest weight throw at 18.78m (61-7 1/2) while Landry Allen vaulted the ninth-best pole vault, 3.98m (13-0 3/4). The pair of Cade DeWitt and Jip de Greef both cleared the program's 10th-best pole vault at 5.28m (17-3 3/4).

The Orange and Blue track and field crews return to action next week for the Hoosier Horsepower Classic on Friday-Saturday (Jan. 16-17) in Indianapolis, Ind.
