ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Freshman Adam Jilly took part in singles play at the ITA Central Sectional in Ann Arbor, Mich. Despite falling in his first match of the weekend, the Hungary native advanced to the semifinals in consolation play.
Facing off with a fellow Big Ten student-athlete in the opening round of singles action, Jilly fell in straight sets in his first-round match against Ohio State's Nikita Filin.Â
After shifting into the consolation bracket, Jilly picked up his first win of the weekend in his first match on Friday. The Illini freshman tallied a straight-set victory against TCU junior Julian Alonso Vivanco, 6-4, 6-4, to advance in Michigan.
Jilly's run ultimately came to a close on Saturday afternoon with a three-set defeat to Notre Dame's Perry Gregg.
Illinois hosts the Paine Schwartz Partners Champaign Challenger from Nov. 9-16 before Kenta Miyoshi represents the Fighting Illini at the NCAA Singles Championship in Orlando, Fla., from Nov. 18-23.
