KETTERING, Ohio – Fighting Illini sophomore Jake Birdwell and junior Ethan Hampton each posted top-20 scores, competing as individuals, in the 82-player field at the Dayton Flyer Invitational at NCR Country Club's South Course.
Birdwell finished 11th, carding rounds of 75, 67, and 73 for a 54-hole total of 215 (+2). Birdwell's Round 2 tally of 4-under 67 was one shot off his career-low round set last week as an indy at the Morain Intercollegiate, also hosted in Kettering at nearby Moraine Country Club. The 11th-place finish is a season-best for Birdwell and marks the fifth top-15 of his collegiate career.
Wilson tied for 20th with a three-round score of 220 (+7) after carding Rounds of 72 and 73 on Monday before posting a closing 75 on Tuesday. His finish also marks a season best and the seventh top-20 of his career as an Illini.
