UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – No. 4 Illinois men's gymnastics clinched at least a share of the regular-season Big Ten title with a 406.500-405.950 win over No. 6 Penn State Saturday afternoon at the Rec Hall.
This marks the first time Illinois has won the Big Ten in the regular season since the title's inception in 2016.
"So much hard work. So much fight," head coach Daniel Ribeiro said. "We have trained with meticulous detail, day in and day out! Tonight, we are the Big Ten champions! These guys deserve this, and I couldn't be more happy and proud to bring home a trophy to Champaign. I-L-L!"
The Illini took four event wins on the evening: Michael Fletcher and Connor McCool shared the floor title with a pair of 14.300s, Brandon Dang won pommel horse with a 14.750, Amari Sewell won vault with a 14.750 and Ryan Vanichtheeranont won high bar with a 14.000.
Floor
Following Fletcher and McCool's 14.300s, Evan Manivong scored a 13.800, with Sebastian Ingersoll taking a 13.200.
Pommel Horse
Will Hauke continued his success on the apparatus with a 14.100, with Ingersoll earning a 13.900. Fletcher rounded out the Illini with a 13.650 in his third appearance on horse.
Still Rings
Though he did not take the title, Ashton Anaya led the Illini with a 13.550. Ingersoll continued his consistency with a 13.400, and Ethan Boder scored a 13.050.
Vault
Manivong notched an impressive 14.500, with Fletcher taking a 14.300 and McCool notching a 14.250.
Parallel Bars
Hauke tallied a 14.000 and took second place. Vahe Petrosyan notched a 13.750, with Fletcher earning a notable 13.150.
High Bar
Tate Costa put up a 13.350 in the final rotation, with Manivong taking a 13.200.
