SARASOTA, Fla. – No. 5 Men's Gymnastics defeated Simpson, Georgia United and Florida Alliance.
Illinois scored the top score of the evening with a 416.150 with Simpson second with a 366.100, Georgia United with a 288.000 and Florida Atlantic securing a 201.950.
Illinois once again sweeped in titles - Connor McCool on floor, Brandon Dang on pommel horse, Ashton Anaya on still rings, Amari Sewell on vault, Will Hauke on parallel bars and Ryan Vanichtheeranont on high bar.
The Illini also competed against the U.S. Senior National team, who also compete for opportunities in the Olympics. Those athletes, including alum Alex Diab, scored 416.250 and didn't count toward the Illini's record or titles.
"Today was so much fun. It was an incredible opportunity competing against the U.S. National team and putting up our season high at the end of this five week stint" head coach Daniel Ribeiro said. "Now we need a bit of rest and recovery before the second half of the season gets underway."
The Illini started the night off on rings, with Anaya scoring a new career-high of 14.850. Sebastian Ingersoll secured a 13.900 with freshman Garrett Schooley taking a 13.800.
Sewell took the highest vault score with a 14.850 with Michael Fletcher taking a 14.450.
Moving onto parallel bars, Hauke scored a notable 14.000 with Fletcher taking a 13.800.
Vanichtheeranont had the top high bar score with a 14.250 with Tate Costa taking a 13.900.
McCool topped the Illini with a 14.600 on floor with Schooley taking a 13.900.
Dang had the highest pommel horse score of the evening with a 14.950. Max Farkhadau scored a career-high 14.600 as well.
Next is the Winter Cup in Louisville, K.y. where Costa, McCool, Costa, Dang and Vahe Petrosyan will compete for a chance to be in the U.S. National team. The competition will last from Feb. 23-25.
