ST. CHARLES, MO. – Fighting Illini women's gymnastics came in third place with a season-high 196.550 at the 2024 GymQuarters Invitational Friday evening in St. Louis, MO. at Family Arena.
"The team came to St. Louis to get their season high and bleed orange proudly," head coach Nadalie Walsh said. "They accomplished both of those goals and I am so proud of them. Their energy and team unity was second to none. I cannot wait to keep the momentum rolling and have another fabulous meet in Huff Hall on Sunday!"
No. 6 Florida took the win with a 197.925 with No. 14 Missouri coming in second with a 197.350 and Lindenwood taking fourth with a 194.825.
The Illini started on beam with Kaitlyn Ewald earning a 9.8 and Mia Townes scoring a 9.775 for the second time this year.
Townes notched a 9.90 on floor with Kadyn Fitzgibbon and Abby Mueller both taking a 9.875 with their routines.
Sophomore Arielle Ward took a career high on vault with a 9.875 with Mueller taking the same score, tying her career high.
Mia Takekawa had another stellar night on bars, scoring a 9.925 for a new season high. Kaitlyn Ewald kept up her consistency on the apparatus, scoring a solid 9.850 for the first time this season.
Illinois will have a short turnaround, hosting No. 15 Minnesota on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Huff Hall for Student Night. Admission is free.
