LINCOLN, Neb. – Fighting Illini women's gymnastics senior Abby Mueller earned a new career-high of 9.950 on floor in No. 22 Illinois 196.875-196.400 loss to Nebraska Saturday evening.
"It is not fun to lose a competition but my team did not get nervous," head coach Nadalie Walsh said. "They were dialed in, held strong and went after what they came for, they just came up a little short. I am proud of them and know they will continue to get better each week. I think this competition taught them a lot and I am eager to see them keep getting better!"
Mueller also won the floor title, her first of the 2024 season. This is the second loss for the Illini, now holding a 5-2 record.
Being the visiting team, the Illini started on bars. Amelia Knight earned the best score for Illinois with a 9.925. Mia Takekawa had the second-best score, earning a 9.850.
Moving onto vault, Arielle Ward scored a 9.850 with Ruthuja Nataraj taking a 9.825.
Floor was highlighted by Mueller's 9.950, but sophomore Alea Byrne also had a respectable score of 9.875.
Ending the night on beam, Takekawa took the highest Illinois score with a 9.900 with Knight taking a 9.825.
Illinois will continue their road trip at No. 9-ranked Ohio State on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.
