CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – No. 4-ranked Fighting Illini men's gymnastics will stay in-state to compete against Greenville on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. CT.
History
Greenville was officially added to NCAA Men's Gymnastics last season, facing Illinois twice: once in the Windy City Invitational and once in dual competition. The Illini were victorious in both meetings (399.400-368.250 at Windy City and 396.050-368.350 in the dual).
Windy City Recap
The Illini started their season on Jan. 13 at the Windy City Invitational. Illinois grabbed second place, scoring a 404.450, its highest Windy City score since 2017, when they scored a 412.150 and got first place.
Three Illini also earned career-highs at Windy City: Ryan Vanichtheeranont on high bar (13.700), Logan Myers on high bar (14.100) and Tate Costa on floor (13.800).
Illinois also brought home three titles: Connor McCool on floor (14.100), Myers on high bar (14.100) and Costa in the all-around (79.700)
New Season Means New Rankings
After their performance at the Windy City Invitational, the Illini received a new ranking of No. 4, preceded only by No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Oklahoma and No. 3 Michigan.
Illinois has three athletes ranked in the top five of their respective events: McCool is No. 5 on floor, Ashton Anaya is No. 3 on still rings and Myers is No. 5 on high bar.
The Illini are also ranked in three different events: No. 3 on floor, No. 5 on still rings and No. 2 on vault.
