CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 22 Illinois women's gymnastics team, fresh off a second place finish at the Metroplex Challenge, is set to compete with No. 14 Ohio State at 8 p.m. at Huff Hall.
The meet will air nationally on Big Ten Network.
ILLINI IN THE RANKINGS
Illinois women's gymnastics are still at the No. 22 spot in the Road to Nationals rankings, as national rankings aren't announced until Monday mornings.
LAST TIME OUT
The Illini took floor first, with Mia Townes taking the top spot for Illinois and second in the competition with a 9.925. Mia Takekawa came close behind Townes with a 9.85.
Arielle Ward showed up for the Illini with her first -10.0 start value vault, scoring a 9.85 and tying four other gymnasts for first place. Abby Mueller and Townes were a step behind Ward, each scoring a 9.8 on the event.
Takekawa once again was the highest scoring Illini on bars, securing a 9.9, while Rachel Borden took a 9.85 and Kaitlyn Ewald 9.825.
Mallory Mizuki and Takekawa had identical beam scores with 9.85, taking the top spots for Illinois with Nataraj and Townes both scoring a 9.825.
SCOUTING REPORT
No. 14 Ohio State is coming off 197.575-196.475 against Maryland at home. The Buckeyes had one of its best outings, earning season-high results on beam, floor and vault to reach the second-best overall score in program history.
The Buckeyes swept the individual event titles and team event titles as 10 scores of 9.900 or higher were recorded on the day.
The beam team stole the show Sunday, earning a program record 49.525 with four gymnasts scoring 9.900s. Sydney Jennings and Tory Vetter each earned career-high marks with 9.925 scores to earn the event title.
The team generated great momentum in the first rotation, scoring a season-best 49.300 on vault with the final three Buckeyes in the lineup earning 9.900 scores.
