PITTSBURGH – The No. 25 Illinois wrestling squad were defeated in their first road dual of the season by No. 18 Pittsburgh on Sunday, Dec. 3 by a score of 22-9. Redshirt junior No. 4 Edmond Ruth moved to 5-0 on the season with his ranked win over No. 20 Luca Augustine (PITT), 11-5.
Today's dual began at 157 pounds and junior Joe Roberts moved to a perfect 4-0 dual record on the season with his 6-3 decision win over Jared Keslar (PITT). Roberts gave the Illini an early 3-0 lead before Ruth would extend it to 6-3 two matches later, their final lead of the night.
Redshirt sophomore No. 27 Danny Pucino earned a himself a ranked win at 141 pounds in overtime. A last second stall call against Pucino in the third period granted No. 13 Cole Matthews (PITT) the point he needed to get into overtime, 3-3. Pucino did not waste many movements at the start of overtime and secured the takedown early for the upset sudden victory, 6-3.
