CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 19 women's gymnastics program is set to face Nebraska at 2 p.m. in Huff Hall after a season-high performance at Rutgers.
ILLINI IN THE RANKINGS
Illinois women's gymnastics moved up to the No. 19 spot in the Road to Nationals rankings, which uses the team's average score to determine where they fall in the rankings.
Senior Mia Takekawa is seventh in the country on balance beam after a full week of meets for all teams.
Takekawa is coming off a clutch performance on beam at Rutgers, scoring a 9.925 to seal the win for the Illini.
LAST TIME OUT
Illinois is coming off a season-high 196.575 win to open Big Ten competition against Rutgers.
The Illini started the meet a little shaky on bars, with the highest score a 9.900 from Mallory Mizuki, who also tied for first place. Olivia O'Donnell earned the next best score, with a 9.875.
Illinois stepped up in vault, with Mia Townes leading the Orange and Blue with a 9.900 and placing first in the competition. Kadyn Fitzgibbon and Ruthuja Nataraj also showed up, both getting a 9.825.
The Illini kept on rising with floor, their best rotation of the afternoon, with Townes leading once again with a 9.250 and getting her second title of the night. Abby Mueller and
Amelia Knight also had strong performances, both earning a 9.900.
To close out the event, Mia Takekawa sealed the deal with a 9.925 on beam, as well as tying for first place. Nataraj also had a strong performance on beam, earning a 9.875.
Illinois will continue Big Ten competition with a meet against Nebraska at Huff Hall on Jan. 28 at 2 p.m.
NEW SEASON-HIGHS FOR EVERYONE
Along with securing a season-high team score with 196.575, Abby Mueller broke her season-high on two events. The junior secured a 9.850 on vault and 9.900 on floor.
Ruthuja Nataraj also broke her vault season-high with a 9.825. Mallory Mizuki and Olivia O'Donnell broke their season highs -- Mizuki with a 9.900 and O'Donnell with a 9.875. Amelia Knight broke her career-high with a 9.900 on floor.Â
