CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Illinois swam past the Spartans to clinch the victory in the second session of the two-day meet against Michigan State Friday afternoon. The Orange and Blue won, 199-154, at the ARC pool in Champaign, extending their record to 2-0 this season.

Freshman diver Britni Fisher achieved a NCAA Zone qualifying score in her second collegiate meet in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 275.03.

"It was Britni's number one goal coming into the year, and it's great to see her achieve it at the second meet," diving coach Chris Waters said. "Now that it has been accomplished, she will focus on continuing to improve."

Junior CeCe Marizu took the event title in the 200 back (2:03.68) continuing her success this season.

"CeCe had a good time today in the 200 back," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "She is well ahead of where she was last year and we are confident that she will continue to progress."

Senior Marissa Clapp also swam well in the second session, taking two event titles in the 200 breast (2:19.01) and 400 IM (4:24.46).

"It was a challenge competing two days in a row," Novitsky said. "Throughout the season we need to improve on keeping our focus and energy level up during the second day of competition."

The Illini return to the pool next week to compete against Iowa State Cyclones on Oct. 25 in Ames, Iowa.
