TERRE HAUTE, IND. - Sophomore runner Dan Stock closed out his 2005 season competing in the men's individual NCAA Championship where he finished 136th in the men's competition. Stock ran the 10K race in 31:20.
Wisconsin's Simon Bairu took first as he finished with a time of 29:15. Richard Koplagat of Iona (29:21) and Chris Solinsky of Wisconsin (29:27) rounded out the top-three.
For the Orange and Blue sophomore, just being able to compete at Nationals was reward enough. "I was glad to just be there and get the experience," said Stock. "I hope to get back there two more times."
Stock had a season filled of personal triumph, including an impressive showing at the Pre-National meet where he finished first for Illinois with an 8K time of 24:52. It was his first meet since a injury sidelined him early on in the season.
From freshman walk-on to NCAA Individual Qualifier, Stock has proved that nothing could slow him down this season, and Head Coach Wendel McRaven couldn't agree more.
"Dan qualifying was a reward in itself," said McRaven. "He ran a solid race, and it gives him something to build off of in the future. Dan now had that experience under his belt, next time he comes here, he'll know what it's all about, the race, the people, the competition."
