The Illini took second place at the NU Relays in Evanston, Ill this afternoon. The hosting Wildcats came out on top with 212 points followed by Illinois (182), UW-Green Bay (142), UW-Milwaukee (138) and University of Illinois-Chicago (118).
Northwestern captured the first six events before Illinois took back-to-back wins in the 200 free 4x50 and 1500 free 3x500 relays.
Barbie Viney, Rebecca Poetz, Christina Brunka and Meghan Farrell swam the 200 free relay (1:35.80) while Britta Jansson, Kellie Stevens and Caroline Moore swam the 1500 free relay (15:21.27).
The Illini were right behind the Wildcats the whole time capturing 10 second-place finishes out of 13 events total.
While the swimmers were at the NU Relays, the divers competed at the UIC Invitational.
The Illini placed sixth overall with junior Jackie Bain placing 16th (183.15) and freshman Marina Mendoza capturing 21st place on the 3-meter. Only two Illini divers competed due to injuries.
"The UIC Invitational is a fun meet to kickoff the season. I thought we competed well. We are right were we need to be at this time," commented diving coach Billy McGowan.
The Illini return to action in two weeks when they face Miami-Ohio on Friday (11/4) and then travel to Indiana to face the Hoosiers on Saturday(11/5).
