
Illinois finishes 23rd at Pre-Nationals

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Illinois men's cross country team placed 23rd out of 34 teams with a team total of 575 points in the white race of the Pre-Nationals meet hosted by Indiana State Univerity at the LaVern Gibson Championship course on Saturday.
Colorado (3) won the race with 70 points, followed by Notre Dame (7) with 96 points and Florida (13) at 152.
In his first race since the season- opener at Iowa, Dan Stock finished first for the Illini with a time of 24:52, and an overall finish of 69th. Following Stock was senior Eric Wallor, with an overall finish of 108th posting a result of 25:17.
Coach Wendel McRaven was enthusiastic about Stock's return. "I was really pleased with Dan's performance," said McRaven. "It was nice for him to come back with such a solid run."
Sophomore Maciej Sniegorksi finished with a time of 25:20, and sophomore Matt Flaherty finished with a time of 25:26. The 8K race marked Flaherty's first competitive appearance for Illinois this season.
Rounding out the top seven Illini finishes were Tim Maier with a time of 25:46, Tim Kelly (26:04), and Justin Aronson (26:16). Michael Kelley did not compete this weekend due to injury.
