Champaign, Ill. - The University of Illinois Swimming and Diving team kicked off its 2002-03 season with a 149-91 win over Illinois State Friday evening on the campus of the University of Illinois. Illinois took home first place in every swimming event but two on the night as junior Crystal McAdam paved the way with two individual wins and one relay win.

"I thought we came out and raced really well tonight," head coach Sue Novitsky said. "We had girls in off events and I wanted them to go out and race and they did a good job of that. Tonight was a chance for us to step up and compete against outside competition for the first time this year and we responded well."

McAdam won both the 400 IM (4:27.68) and 100 breast (1:09.24) individually. She was also on the first place 400 medley relay team (3:55.28) that also included Alison Czmarko, Ilkay Dikmen and Colleen Gorman.

Amy Downing was also a double winner for the Illini, taking both the 200 free (1:56.03) and 500 free (5:110.43). Other first place finishes for Illinois included sophomore Amy Downing in the 200 free (1:56.03), Dikmen in the 100 fly (59.77), Kirsten Koepcke in the 100 free (53.64) and Sara O' Fallon in the 100 back (1:00.54). Junior Casey Boyd won the 100 breast, touching the wall in a time of 1:09.24.

Illinois returns to the pool Saturday morning, hosting Michigan State, Missouri and Southern Illinois at IMPE pool. Action is slated to begin at 10 a.m.
