
Illini Gymnasts Fall To Ohio State In Big Ten Battle

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The University of Illinois women's gymnastics team lost to Ohio State 192.600 to 191.325 Saturday in Columbus, Ohio in a difficult Big Ten matchup. The loss drops the Illini's record to 3-5 overall, and 1-2 in the Big Ten.
The Illini lost all four events as a team. Individually, the Illini took three out of the top five spots on the bars. Phaedra Dixon led the Illini on the bars with a 9.800, good enough for second overall. For the beam, the Illini took four out of the top five spots. Janna Gallagher scored a 9.775 to lead the Illini, but fell just short of the leader, Ohio State's Elizabeth Jenson, who scored a 9.800.
On the floor, Phaedra Dixon was the best for the Illini with a 9.875, which placed her second overall. On the vault, Illinois came in fourth and fifth with scores from Michelle Buranich, 9.650, and Allison Berg, 9.625. In the all-around, Phaedra Dixon came in second with a 38.375 and Karen Hawley came in fifth with a 37.325.
The road trip for the Illini continues on February 11th at Kentucky.
