Fighting Illini Fall To Penn State

Men's gymnastics team is now 7-5 on the season.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The fifth-ranked Illini men's gymnastics team dropped a tough Big Ten conference meet to No. 3 Penn State, 227.00-224.850, Saturday night at Huff Hall. With the loss, the Illini falls to 7-5 overall and 5-5 in the conference.

Junior Linh Hoang (Houston, Texas) took second in the all-around with a mark of 55.475, while also placing second on vault (9.50) and fifth on still rings. Sophomore Sean-Paul Crawford (Buena Park, California) scored a 9.65 on floor for second-place and 9.40 on high bar for third. Greg Cook finished second on parallel bars with a 9.50 and J.G. Ketchentook third on rings with a 9.650.

"Tonight was not a very good meet for us," 24th-year head coach Yoshi Hayasaki said. "We just really couldn't pull anything together. We will just have to get back to the gym and work out harder for next week."

The Illini will be back in action next Saturday against the defending national champion Michigan Wolverine squad. Meet time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Huff Hall.
